Feeling overwhelmed by information and change and how focusing on making a difference in your local community can help overcome those feelings and challenges
I am thankful to be able to add my voice
to the many contributors of The Kingdom
Press. We are all stakeholders in our community,
and we must all do our part to help
one another thrive! I have been serving in
Southwest Florida as a Pastor and Director
of Non-Profit ministries for over eighteen
years. I have worked with dozens of area
churches, schools, and non-profits during
that time to build bridges and bring people
together to address some of the most challenging
problems facing our community. I am
excited to provide my perspective through
editorials and analysis related to our community
that I hope will be of benefit to many.

Last year I came to the startling
realization that a persistent, negative
outlook was threatening to
overwhelm me. I began to understand
that my obsession with national
news had led me to focus too
much of my time and attention on
things that were outside of my control.
Thankfully I knew the way out
based on my own advice to others.
I needed to turn down the volume
on the national news conversation
and turn up the volume on the
needs of my local community.
Our nation is experiencing a
collective overwhelmedness that
is being fueled by our obsession
with national news. The antidote
to this is to become “hyper-local”
in our focus. Without completely
ignoring the national conversation
we can reduce our feelings of helplessness
by realizing that each of
us can make a big difference when
we focus on the important issues
right in our backyard.
Having lived in this community
for over eighteen years I have
seen the difference that is made
when we support our local institutions,
partner with local non-profits,
and advocate for local political
policies that impact our everyday
lives more than the national issues
we spend so much time and energy
discussing.
This is why I’m excited about
the launch of The Kingdom Press.
We need more local voices and
participants to help us take action
and make our community stronger
for everyone. The added benefit to
us is that as we focus more on the
issues that are within our control,
we will feel less helpless and more
empowered in the process.
