Florida’s Governor Ron Desantis is a very busy man!

Running for re-election, introducing revolutionary laws, railing against Hurricane IAN, debating the issues and looking at the 2024 presidency
From all indications, it is no gainsaying that Florida’s Governor, Ron Desantis, is sure a busy man. This is quite expected, as the Office of the Governor of an American State comes with a lot of responsibilities and duties.
As the Governor of an American State, it is Desantis’ civic responsibility to ensure that the state of Florida runs smoothly. But that is not all that is keeping Desantis up on his feet all day, as the Governor has a lot of irons in the fire.
First on the list of irons is his reelection campaign. After serving the state of Florida for 3 years, DeSantis is bidding to retain his seat in the next governorship election coming up in November 2022. Simultaneously, there are speculations that DeSantis is also eyeing the White House in the Presidential pills come 2024.
But, up to date, DeSantis is yet to debunk or admit publicly his intentions to vie for the office of the POTUS come 2024. He was quoted to have replied to Democrat Charlie Crist’s question during the debate that was held on Monday, October 24th, 2022, thus: “I know that Charlie’s interested in talking about 2024, in Joe Biden. But I just want to make things very, very clear. The only worn-out old donkey I’m looking to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.”
This was in response to Crist’s enquiry that said, “Why don’t you look in the eyes of the people of the state of Florida and say to them if you’re reelected, you will serve a full four-year term as governor?” Crist said. “Yes or no?” Although some people tagged Crist’s retorts as unnecessary and uncalled for, this question is valid with respect to the people of Florida.

In the past couple of months, the governor has embarked on signing a couple of controversial bills into law, an act which is making the people of Florida and Americans as a whole believe that surely Vision 2024 is not a mere saying. An example of such laws is the stop the W. O. K. E. (Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees) law.
The Stop the W. O. K. E. act is said to be a law that prohibits how the topic of race is being discussed in public places such as workplaces, colleges and schools.
According to Tallahassee Democrat, DeSantis was said to have justified this move by saying, “We believe an important component of freedom in the state of Florida is the freedom from having oppressive ideologies imposed upon you without your consent,” DeSantis said. “Whether it be in the classroom or in the workplace. And we decided to do something about it.” With a bill like this passed into law, there would be a total eradication of the Critical race theory in Florida.
The Critical Race Theory simply states that social institutions in the United States of America (which includes the healthcare system, labor market, educational system and justice system amongst others), have underlying currents of racism running through them up till today.
Shutting off the study of such a sensitive and critical topic is one that has gotten tongues wagging, with people wondering what the end game is for De- Santis.
The Stop the W. O. K. E. law asides, another reason why it is looking like DeSantis has his eyes on a bigger picture than the state of Florida is the fact that DeSantis is moving his campaign and funding out of Florida.
Over the past couple of months, there has been news of DeSantis visiting wealthy Americans across the country. Not less than 42 billionaires have been reported to be a part of the financial sponsors of DeSantis’ reelection campaign.
These 42 billionaires come from 15 different states of the country, and they have been reported to have pushed a lot of money into his campaign. Hence, this is why DeSantis’ campaign funding is said to be summed up to about $218 million as of September 2022, a figure that has ranked DeSantis as the highest funding ever recorded in the history of American politics.
That’s not all, in conjunction with these financial alliances that DeSantis is making with the ‘crème de la crème’ of America, the DeSantis’ campaign trail is another pointer to the fact that the people of Florida might not get the best of DeSantis if reelected, as he is ignoring his constituents and seeking bigger fishes in the ocean of politics.
According to cityandstatefl. com, it was reported that De- Santis kick-started his campaign trail in Pittsburgh in August, and moved to Ohio, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah in the last few months.
For a leader who is vying to be reelected to rule just a state, the statistics show that DeSantis is doing too much. He is involved in too many things that shouldn’t be his priorities as a governor.
Putting all of these into consideration, it is obvious that Ron De- Santis is playing the game to favor a sect of persons who are calling the shots behind the camera.
