Webster defines a motto as a sentence, phrase or word inscribed on something as appropriate to or indicative of its character or use. It is generally a short expression of a guiding principle. While I believe all organizations have some sort of motto, I think with a new year beginning, we should all think of a new motto to help us begin a new chapter in our lives.
Here at the Lehigh Acres VFW Post 4174, we could very easily use as our brand new motto, the words “WE CARE, WE’RE THERE”. Since its inception, the VFW has always worked to put our Veterans first, even going so far as to send many representatives to our nation’s capitol to argue for the rights all Veterans have so rightly earned. We follow the National guidelines continually but are also always looking for new ways to improve and add to our membership with the help of our officers.
We show that we care in many ways: assisting veterans and their families in adjusting to civilian life after their tour is finished; working with the community youth in fostering respect and knowledge of the flag and the Constitution; collecting funds for scholarships; having service officers to cut through the red tape which Washington is so fond of tossing our way; promoting membership in the VFW itself; having our Riders participate in ceremonies honoring their fellow comrades; and assisting the community of which they are a part by collections, donations and other charitable works.
With the beginning of another year, it would be an awesome venture for everyone to participate in helping establish the” We care, We’re there” motto expansion. It wouldn’t be all that difficult . One would only need to participate in some of the many activities created each month by volunteering a little time and care or just joining the crowd for an interesting outing. The Public is always welcome at our Post and we would certainly enjoy meeting and greeting those in our neighborhood.
Many memorable events are always happening. Our Post wants everyone to know we really do care and would really be there if you needed us. Our members proudly served and are always willing to continue to do so. Don’t be afraid to drop in, you’ll be glad you did!
