Are you the type of person who is has an outgoing sociable personality? Do you possess good following through skills for a project? And do you like to meet people and have fun while doing so? If any of these descriptions apply to you, the Auxiliary of the VFW is holding out its arms, ready to welcome you!
Of course, to belong, you must be related to a VFW member in any of the following categories: husband/wife, widower/widow, father/mother, grandpa/grandma, son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, or brother/sister. The age restriction is at least 16 years old. Many people do not realize that even if one is a step or adopted person, the conditions are considered the same.
VFW Auxiliary Memberships have a special criteria which has been operational since the Auxiliary began. Developing committee goals for the coming year is an important step. It is also necessary to educate and train about the importance of recruiting new members to keep the Auxiliary functioning in the coming years.
One of the most successful tools the Auxiliary has is a continual survey of its members and initiating the changes whenever possible using the feedback received. It is also important to develop a most positive Auxiliary image which would be attractive to prospective and current members.
The Auxiliary has 14 different committees which require chairmen to head and report all the programs. At the VFW Post 4174, we have some awesome chairpersons who thoroughly enjoy their positions and are continually working for the betterment of each of the committees they serve.
The fun comes in when a committee has a successful year and encourages other members to join in and help propel the program to a higher level. While volunteering is a rewarding venture, chairing a committee can give a more satisfying feeling of accomplishment because the deeds have achieved a helpful purpose for veterans, their families and the community.
If you meet any of the criteria for joining, consider giving us a call at 239-369-5100. You’ll be glad you did!
