2023 Product Calendar — The U.S. Census Bureau has posted anticipated release dates for each regular and recurring statistical product scheduled for release in 2023. These products are listed in the Census Bureau’s online product calendar, which is updated as needed throughout the year.

Demographic

REVISED RELEASE DATE: 2023 National Population Projections — The U.S. Census Bureau will release the 2023 National Population Projections which provide an in-depth analysis of the nation’s population looking forward to 2100, including its size and composition by age, sex, race, Hispanic origin and nativity. The 2023 projections include a main series and three alternative scenarios with varying assumptions about international migration. Note: This release was previously scheduled for embargo Tuesday, October 3, and for public release Thursday, October 5. It has been moved due to a delay in finalizing the table package. Stay tuned for an updated release date in the coming weeks.

Aging-Ready Homes in the United States — Perception Versus Reality of Aging-Accessibility Needs: 2019 — A new report by the U.S. Census Bureau examines whether American homes are ready for an aging population. It explores how many homes have aging-accessible design features and the number of Americans age 65 and over who have reported difficulty using certain areas of their home. The report also explores whether older Americans think their home suits their accessibility needs and whether they have plans to renovate their home to make it more aging accessible. (Tentatively scheduled for release October 10.)

2022 School Enrollment Data Tables — The U.S. Census Bureau will release school enrollment data that examine the characteristics of people enrolled in school at all levels in 2022 using statistics from the Current Population Survey. The data tables detail enrollment from pre-school through college. (Scheduled for release October 11.)

Field of Degree by Earnings Table Package — The U.S. Census Bureau will release a new table package on Earnings by Field of Degree. These tables come from the 2022 American Community Survey (ACS) and will provide detailed data on field of bachelor’s degree and median earnings for the U.S. population ages 25 to 64 with a bachelor’s degree or higher. (Scheduled for release October 17.)

State-Level Geographic Mobility and Place of Birth Data — The U.S. Census Bureau will release new geographic mobility and place of birth data at the state level. These data come from the 2022 American Community Survey (ACS). The State-to-State Migration Flows table will provide estimates of the number of people moving between origin and destination geographies. The State of Residence by Place of Birth table will provide estimates of the number of people living in their current state of residence by place of birth. (Scheduled for release October 19.)

Household Pulse Survey — The experimental Household Pulse Survey is an effort by the U.S. Census Bureau and other federal statistical agencies to provide near real-time data on how the social and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergent issues are affecting people’s lives to inform federal and state response and recovery planning. Data collection for phase 3.10 began August 23, with data dissemination including detailed data tables and public use data files on a monthly basis. (Scheduled for release October 11 and November 8.)

School Pulse Panel — The first look at data from the School Pulse Panel (SPP) will be released this month. The SPP is a monthly data collection of vital information in public education. SPP began as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and serves as a primary source of information regarding public school’s response to the pandemic. This school year the SPP will cover a range of topics including after-school and summer programs, learning recovery, tutoring, staffing and mental health services. The Census Bureau collects this data on behalf of the National Center for Education Statistics from public schools in the United States and outlying areas. Estimates from SPP are considered experimental and can be examined at the school level (elementary, middle/combined and high schools), school size, region, locale (urbanicity), racial/ethnic student enrollment, and school neighborhood poverty level. Economic

“Studying Workers Travel Patterns to Employment Centers Using Census Data” — The U.S. Census Bureau and the Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership in collaboration with the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) and the Labor Market Information (LMI) Institute, welcomes Sadra Sharifi, Emanuel Lucban and Liang Tian as they present, “Studying Workers Travel Patterns to Employment Centers Using Census Data.” This study explores workers historical travel patterns, utilizing the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES) data to gain insight into the relationship between demographic characteristics and primary employment centers in the San Diego region. Results of this study will help local policy makers and key stakeholders to institute data driven programs and policies to improve regional transportation systems leading to reduced congestion and emissions. (Scheduled for release October 18.)

2022 Annual Business Survey — The U.S. Census Bureau will release detailed data tables from the 2022 Annual Business Survey (ABS) covering reference year 2021. Data will include estimates on the number of firms, receipts, payroll and employment by sector, sex, ethnicity, race and veteran status. Tables show data on various owner and business characteristics at the national, state and metropolitan statistical area geographic levels. Data will also include module characteristics of businesses statistics, showing impact of the coronavirus pandemic on employer businesses by sex, ethnicity, race and veteran status. Data in these tables replace preliminary data released in March 2023. The ABS is conducted jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES). (Scheduled for release October 26.)

Business Trends and Outlook Survey — The Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTOS) measures business conditions on an ongoing basis. Starting this fall, BTOS experimental data products will be representative of all employer businesses in the U.S. economy, excluding farms. The next publication for BTOS with this change is scheduled for October 26, 2023. The data allow greater insight into the state of the economy by providing continuous, timely information for key economic measures. Data are released biweekly and are available by sector, state and the 25 most populous metropolitan statistical areas.

Monthly Business Formation Statistics — Business Formation Statistics (BFS) provide timely, high-frequency data on business applications and employer business formations monthly. The data are available at the state, regional and national levels and by industry sector at the national level. The next monthly BFS release is October 16 and will include September 2023 data. American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month: November 2023 — To commemorate American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, the Census Bureau has compiled a list of statistics about the American Indian and Alaska Native population. (Tentatively scheduled for release in October.)

The 2023 Winter Holiday Season — The holiday season is a time to celebrate, reflect, exchange gifts and give thanks. To commemorate this time of year, the U.S. Census Bureau presents the following holiday-related facts and figures from its vast collection of statistics. (Scheduled for release in November.)

2020 Census

Housing Characteristics: 2020 — September 28 — This release features an interactive map and briefing paper on 2020 Census housing characteristics. This brief provides an overview of homeownership, renters, vacant housing and other 2020 Census housing statistics previously released through data about homeownership by the age, race and ethnicity of the householder. The map provides national, state, core-based statistical area (CBSA) and county data. It also includes data from the 2010 Census for comparison.

Economic

Annual Survey of School System Finances First Look — October 3 — The U.S. Census Bureau released preliminary data from the 2022 Annual Survey of School System Finances. The data provide initial insight into spending per public school pupil (pre-K through 12th grade), as well as revenue and other school system spending details in 41 states and the District of Columbia.

2023 Manufacturing Day — September 29 — The U.S. Census Bureau participated in the 12th annual Manufacturing Week event: a celebration of this sector’s contributions to the nation’s economy. The week is designed to coincide with and culminate on Manufacturing Day, Oct. 6, to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and spur interest in manufacturing careers. The Census Bureau featured an updated Manufacturing Week homepage with valuable manufacturing statistics and data products, and we posted relevant historical facts on our social media pages throughout the week.

2021 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS) — September 28 — The U.S. Census Bureau released the 2021 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS) data in the Census API, data.census.gov, in CSV format on the BDS website, and BDS Explorer. The BDS is an annual time series — covering the years 1978 to 2021 — and provides measures of business dynamics (such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns) for the economy, aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics.

Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey — September 28 — The U.S. Census Bureau released data on the nation’s inventory and use of selected vehicles. The Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (VIUS) is a joint partnership with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Federal Highway Administration, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Census Bureau. This is the first release of the physical and operational characteristics of the nation’s vehicle population since 2004.

Cannabis Excise Sales Tax Collections — September 28 — The U.S. Census Bureau released a new experimental data product featuring quarterly tax collections at the state level for cannabis sales. Data for cannabis sales taxes were reported in the Quarterly Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue and includes data from the third quarter of 2021 through the second quarter of 2023.

Dispersion Statistics on Productivity (DiSP) — September 26 — The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released a new version of the experimental data product, Dispersion Statistics on Productivity (DiSP). DiSP provides information on the within-industry dispersion in productivity at the 4-digit NAICS level for the manufacturing sector. The new version of DiSP data covers years 1987 to 2020.
